Aug 2022 Region Meet

The Aug 2022 Region Meet was unique for our meeting; call it the “March of the Vintage Tanks, Airplanes, and Autos. Stretch that a bit if you count amphi-vehicles as “Boats”. Most were housed in three large air conditioned building ………… except for the tank demonstration where you could ride in a tank or even operate one on a large scale “battlefield”.

When first entering the facility we were greeted by the tanks where in this photo you can see a father and son riding up in the turret of one of the tanks:

Stepping into the “Tank Building” allows an up and personal contact with the unique vehicles that were from the wartime periods of our history. Whether you were with Jane, Rich, Carol, & Vince viewing the rocket launcher & tanks from afar:

or were up close like Vince & Carol viewing the vehicle eating tank:

(not so camouflaged?) it would qualify as something the Region has not experienced. But there was more and more as we went thru each of the building (or warehouses given their size).

Rich got info on some of the Army warplane fundamentals in the airplane building while staying cool (maybe that’s why some of the “snow” didn’t melt?):

My favorite was the plane with the single torpedo hanging from the belly with machine guns mounted just outside the diameter of the prop. It doesn’t provide ideas for us Mopar Owners but does show the basic methods used by the engineers of the past that designed the vintage cars that we still drive around:

The last building we entered did come closer to our vintage vehicles and ranged from the first of the 20th century:

Right up to WWII and included high end Cads, Cords, Stanley’s, Auburns, and on and on:

One location even had a stage coach that reached way back in time.

This fantastic building involves people taking tend care of these prized relics that translates the words you might read about in some car book into reality as if you walked back 100 years and were a part of that time.

The Region had planned the August 2022 Region Meet visit to coincide with a special event weekend to get the maximum experience from the visit. The location is 568 Main St. in Hudson, Ma. for the Region’s latest experience of a lifetime. Members attending (who recovered from the huge lunch in town) will remember this day for sure, but it will be hard to top. I have a feeling based on the full parking field & high number of parking attendants that this museum is a big attraction for N.E. folks.

We decided to attend a local event next Saturday in Vernon and all hoped the low humidity experienced over the last few days (& drop in temps) would re-emerge for that event.
